Text-based PDFs work best — scanned images won't extract text
How it works
PDF.js extracts the text content from each page of your PDF, groups it into lines, and rebuilds a Word document (.docx) using the docx library — all in your browser, with no server involved.
Limitations
PDFs store content as positioned text fragments rather than semantic paragraphs, so complex layouts (columns, tables, footnotes) may not reconstruct perfectly. Scanned PDFs (image-only) produce no text output — you'd need OCR software for those. Text-based PDFs created from Word or other office apps work best.
Privacy
Your PDF is never uploaded anywhere. The entire extraction and conversion runs locally in your browser.
